About the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics
The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is a technical society dedicated to the advancement of professions in global aerospace. It has tens of thousands of members from countries all across the world.
The AIAA’s activities include developing, publishing and distributing aerospace Standards that cover a range of topics related to the aerospace industry. These include mission assurance, space power, vehicle safety and operations, unmanned aircraft, spacecraft architecture, and energy and propulsion systems.
AIAA Standards are developed and approved through volunteer work under the guidance of the AIAA Committees on Standards.

The AIAA is a not-for-profit society that was formed through a merger of the American Rocket Society and the Institute of the Aerospace Sciences in 1963. It is governed by a Board of Trustees and headquartered in Reston, Virginia, but also has dozens of local sections throughout the United States and overseas.
