This Standard provides general requirements and information for the methods in the AS 1289 series. It provides the following:(a) A list of related documents.(b) Definitions.(c) General requirements for apparatus used in a number of the methods and a list of Standards with which that apparatus is required to comply.(d) Soil groups for use in a number of the methods and related provisions.NOTES: 1 A list of all the methods in the AS 1289 series current at the time of publication of this Standard is provided in Appendix A.2 With the exception of a soil classification test and some soil compaction and density tests, soils with a proportion of material greater than 20% retained on a 37.5 mm AS 1152 sieve cannot be usefully examined by the methods in the AS 1289 series.
