1.1This specification covers cold-formed welded unannealed austenitic, ferritic-martensitic, and austenitic-ferritic duplex stainless steel tubing in rounds and shapes, intended for structural purposes and other applications where mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance are needed. The alloys covered are listed in Table 1.
1.2This specification covers cold-formed as-welded structural tubing in the following size ranges:
1.2.1Tubing with one longitudinal weld with perimeter up to 48 in. [1219 mm] and wall thickness from 0.049 in. up to 5/8in. [1.24 mm to 15.9 mm].
1.2.2Tubing with two (2) longitudinal welds and press brake formed with an outside perimeter between 32 in and 88 in [812 mm and 2235 mm] and wall thickness from 1/4in. up to 1 in. [6.35 mm to 25.4 mm].
1.3Tubes shall be furnished in one of the following shapes as specified by the purchaser: round, square, rectangular, or special.
1.4Supplementary requirements of an optional nature are provided and when desired shall be stated in the order.
1.5Units—This specification is expressed in both inch-pound units and in SI units. However, unless the purchase order or contract specifies the applicable M specification designation [SI units], the inch-pound units shall apply. The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. SI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalent; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with the standard.
1.6This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
1.7This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
