La presente Norma contiene i requisiti particolari per adattatori per usi domestici e similari, compresi gli adattatori di interposizione ai quali non era applicabile l'edizione precedente (CEI 23-57:1997). Essa deve essere utilizzata congiuntamente alla Norma CEI 23-50:2007, denominata Parte 1. La presente Norma fornisce prescrizioni riguardanti la costruzione e le modalità di prova degli adattatori di cui sopra, allo scopo di ottenere sicurezza per le persone e assenza di danni nell'ambiente circostante.
