This standard gives a selection of metallic materials for the body components of valves (such as upper and lower halves of valve bodies, bonnets). It does not apply to fasteners and functional elements (such as bolts, stems, shafts). The purpose of the standard is to list the preferred grades of materials for valve bodies in such a way that the material approved for a particular application can be readily selected.
