Vane testing is suitable for water-saturated, cohesive or organic soils of soft to stiff consistency. Applies to soundings on terrain (field investigations) for determining the shearing strength of the non-drained soil (see DIN 18137 Part 1 Preliminary Standard) by means of standardized equipment.
