La présente norme européenne définit la méthode d'essai pour déterminer la résistance chimique de l'émail des carreaux céramiques, à température ambiante. Elle est applicable à tous les carreaux céramiques émaillés. Toutefois, l'essai au crayon n'est applicable qu'aux carreaux pour lesquels les traces de crayon peuvent être facilement enlevées avec un chiffon sec. Lorsque l'essai au crayon n'est pas applicable, l'émail peut être classé en fonction des modifications d'aspect résultant de l'action chimique. L'essai de résistance aux taches n'est pas applicable aux carreaux partiellement émaillés.
