About the Association Française de Normalisation

The Association Française de Normalisation (AFNOR) is France’s official distributor of voluntary Standards and a provider of training, assessment and certification services.

 

As France’s representative within international and European Standards organisations, AFNOR leads the coordination of the French Standardisation system and promotes its related applications.

 

AFNOR has a global network and over 30,000 active Standards. The Standards apply to a wide range of industries – including consumer products, food safety, healthcare, engineering, IT, and resources. They are designed to promote workplace safety, facilitate innovation, improve consumer confidence and address societal matters.

AFNOR is a registered not-for-profit association and the oversight body for the French Standardisation system. As the French representative within global Standards organisations, it serves the general interest in its Standardisation practices. AFNOR has a chief goal of contributing to the promotion of best practice based on world Standards, to the benefit of industry, consumers and society as a whole.

These include consumer groups, unions, local authorities, non-governmental organisations, and ministry representatives. While it is centred in France, AFNOR runs a global network and has offices in many other countries.
