About the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is a technical society dedicated to the advancement of professions in global aerospace. It has tens of thousands of members from countries all across the world.

The AIAA’s activities include developing, publishing and distributing aerospace Standards that cover a range of topics related to the aerospace industry. These include mission assurance, space power, vehicle safety and operations, unmanned aircraft, spacecraft architecture, and energy and propulsion systems. 

AIAA Standards are developed and approved through volunteer work under the guidance of the AIAA Committees on Standards.

Created in 1963, the AIAA is a non-government not-for-profit organisation dedicated to global leadership, innovation and technical excellence in the field of aerospace. It has over 30,000 individual and corporate members from countries all over the world. As the largest technical society in the world, the AIAA’s aim is to celebrate and advance the fields of aerospace science, engineering, technology and operations, in turn benefiting global society.
