Describes a procedure for the biological degradation of surfactants of the anionic and non-ionic types by inoculation of diluted surfactants with air-dried activated sewage sludge. Assessment is made from graphs of relationship between time of withdrawal of samples and degree of degradation of surfactant. Appendices describe methods of analysis of anionic and non-ionic (TLC and Wickhold procedures) surfactants.
