This Standard sets out a dry sieve method using electroformed sieves for determining the mass distribution of the particle sizes in aluminium oxide primarily used for the production of aluminium. The use of wire-woven sieves has been found unsatisfactory. This method is suitable for calcined aluminium oxide containing a maximum of 20% by mass of particles having a mean diameter exceeding 150 mm, and containing a maximum of 15% by mass of particles having a mean diameter less than 45 mm.
