Applies to household refrigerators and freezers of the automatic compression (electric) self-contained type. It provides basic definitions relating to volume and shelf area ratings and various operational functions, specifies requirements for quality of construction and performance, and prescribes basic performance tests. It is not intended that this specification limit in any way improvement in product design and construction.
