This specification applies to the performance required from the flameproof enclosure of electrical equipment, and to those features of design and construction that are considered to be essential or desirable to secure reliability of the enclosure in service. The specification does not apply to enclosures kept charged with air or other non-flammable gas so as to prevent the entry of flammable gas, nor to the enclosure of batteries from which hydrogen is emitted such as may be used for traction.
