This Standard establishes requirements for synthetic resin (phenolic) moulding materials, classified into eight types according to their properties. Certain phnolic moulding materials, used in limited quantities for special purposes, do not correspond to any of the types, and therefore, although they may be of high quality, are not covered by this standard. Appendices A to L specify methods for determining the required physical properties by means of tests carried out on the prescrived moulded specimens. Appendices M to T give additional tests for use when the purchaser of the moulding materials desires the determination of properties other than those required by this specification. When these test methods are to be used, the requirements shall be the subject of agreement between the manufacturer and purchaser. Appendix U shows how the method of calculation of the qualifying limits has been derived.
