Covers procedures for measurement of the texture depth of surfaces of bituminous materials for roads and other paved areas. Gives two procedures - one which uses a non-contact laser beam sensor system, and the other a fixed volume of sand spread on the road surface, known as the sand-patch method. The first procedure provides numerically different results to the second, and the two procedures should not be confused. Where the sand-patch method may be used on any surface type, the laser texture meter procedure is used only on newly laid chipped rolled asphalt wearing courses.
