This British Standard specifies requirements for flameproof equipment attached to, or forming part of, a diesel engine for use in coal, and other, mines susceptible to firedamp. The use of diesel engines in such mines imposes environmental constraints on the equipment and these constraints are detailed in the standard.

The tests which the diesel engine and its ancillary fittings are required to undergo to prove compliance with this standard are detailed in the appendices.
