Gives the general principles of dimensioning that applies in all fields (i.e. mechanical, electrical, civil engineering, architecture etc). In some specific technical areas, it is possible that the general rules and conventions will not cover all the needs of specialized practices adequately. Rules may be laid down in standards specific to these areas in these cases.
