This standard specifies a glow wire test to simulate the effect of thermal stresses that may arise from heat sources, such as incandescent elements or overloaded resistors, for short periods, in order to assess fire risks using a simulation technique; the test described is applicable to electrical appliances, their subassemblies and components, but also to solid electrical insulating materials or other solid combustible materials.
