Preface This is the first edition of CSA Standard C22.2 No. 1335.1, Portable Electrical Motor-Operated and Heating Appliances: General Requirements , part of a series of Standards issued by the Canadian Standards Association under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. It is written in SI (metric) units. This edition of the Standard contains requirements pertaining to motor-operated food-processing appliances that were formerly in CSA Standard C22.2 No. 195, Motor-Operated Food Processing Appliances (Household and Commercial) and also requirements for household cooking and liquid-heating appliances that were formerly in CSA Standard CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 64, Household Cooking and Liquid-Heating Appliances. CSA Standard C22.2 No. 1335.1 is based on IEC Publication 335-1. Where Canadian deviations have necessitated the deletion of IEC Publication 335-1 text, the IEC text has been retained but has been overstricken to indicate it as nonmandatory. Text added to IEC Publication 335-1 as mandatory has been underlined including, where feasible, Tables and Figures. It should be noted that in this Standard the following print types are used: (a) requirements: in roman type; (b) test specifications: in italic type; (c) notes: which are a nonmandatory part of the Standard, in small roman type; and (d) words in bold in the text are defined in Clause 2. This Standard contains general requirements and is intended to be used in conjunction with the appropriate particular Standard for specific products, which contains Clauses to supplement or modify the corresponding Clauses in the general requirements, to provide the relevant requirements for each type of product. If the functions of an appliance are covered by different particular Standards, the relevant particular Standard is applied to each function separately, so far as is reasonable. If applicable, the influence of one function on the other is taken into account. For general information about the Standards of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II, see the Preface of the latest issue of CSA Standard CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 0, General Requirements—Canadian Electrical Code, Part II. In view of the above Canadian terminology, and in order to avoid confusion, the term \"General Requirements\" is used in place of \"Part 1\" in IEC Publication 335-1, and the term \"Particular Standard\" is used in place of \"Part 2\". This Standard was prepared by a Subcommittee of the Technical Committee on Consumer and Commercial Products under the jurisdiction of the Standards Steering Committee on the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II, and was formally approved by these Committees. Scope 1.1 This standard deals with the safety of electrical appliances for household and similar purposes, the rated voltage of the appliance being not more than 250 V, and for use in nonhazardous locations, in accordance with the rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I and the National Electrical Code. 1.2 Appliances may incorporate motors, heating elements or their combination, and may be supplied by low-voltage power supplies. 1.3 Battery-operated appliances that can be used while connected to the battery charger(s) are within the scope of this Standard. 1.4 Appliances not intended for normal household use but which nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended to be used by laypeople in shops, in light industry and on farms, are within the scope of this standard. Note(1) Examples of such appliances are catering equipment, cleaning appliances and appliances for hairdressers. 1.5 So far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by appliances which are encountered by all persons in and around the home. 1.6Limitations This Standard does not apply to appliances that are covered by other specific standards of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II. This standard does not in general take into account (a) the use of appliances by young children or infirm persons without supervision; (b) playing with the appliance by young children. Notes: (2) Attention is drawn to the fact that: (a) for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be necessary; (b) for appliances intended to be used in tropical countries special requirements may be necessary; (c) in many countries additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour, the national water supply authorities and similar authorities. (3) This standard does not apply to (a) appliances marked exclusively for industrial purposes; (b) radio and television receivers, record players and similar equipment; (c) appliances for medical purposes; (d) hand-held motor-operated electric tools; (e) personal computers and similar equipment; (f) blankets, pads and similar flexible heating appliances; (g) electric fence energizers; (h) transportable motor-operated electric tools.
