CSA Preface This is the third edition of CSA ISO 18134-2, Solid biofuels — Determination of moisture content — Part 2: Simplified method , which is an adoption without modification of the identically titled ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Standard 18134-2 (third edition, 2024-03). It supersedes the previous edition, published in 2021 as CSA ISO 18134-2 (adopted ISO 18134-2:2017). For brevity, this Standard will be referred to as \"CSA ISO 18134-2\" throughout. This Standard is one of many Standards developed by ISO/TC 238 on Solid Biofuels that are being adopted by CSA Group. CSA Group acknowledges that the adoption of this Standard was made possible, in part, by the financial support of Natural Resources Canada Clean Fuels. This Standard was reviewed for Canadian adoption by the CSA Technical Committee on Solid Biofuels, under the jurisdiction of the CSA Strategic Steering Committee on Fuels and Appliances, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee. This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group. Scope This document specifies a method of determining the moisture content of a test sample of solid biofuels by drying in an oven and is used when the highest precision is not needed, e.g. for routine production control on site. The method described in this document is applicable to all solid biofuels. The moisture content of solid biofuels (as received) is always reported based on the total mass of the test sample (wet basis). NOTE Biomass materials can contain small amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOC) which can evaporate when determining moisture content by oven drying (see References [1] and [2]). The release of such compounds is quite small relative to the overall moisture content as determined by this method and is disregarded in this document.
