An aspirated psychrometer measures the difference in air temperature (psychrometric temperature depression) which is produced when air is blows at a fixed velocity both past a thermometer whose bulb is fitted with a moist fabric sleeve (wet-bulb thermometer) and past a thermometer without a fabric sleeve (dry-bulb thermometer). As a result of the difference between the partial pressure of the water vapour of the air flowing part and the water vapour saturation pressure above the wet thermometer, water evaporates at this point.
