The method described serve to determine the acid value of resins 1), oils, fats, fatty acids, solvents 2), plasticizers 2) and other industrial organic substances and mixtures of such substances. In the method described in sub-clause 7.1, potassium hydroxide reacts only partially with any acid anhydrides so that the values determined is to be considered a partial acid value whereas, for determining the (total) acid value, the method described in sub-clause 7.2 is to be used. The methods are not applicable to substances which are neutralized by, and react with, alkali in other ways.
