The method of test described in this standard serves to determine the strain and strength properties of plastics by subjecting test pieces prepared from them to static tensile stress under conditions where the results obtained are influenced not only by the level of stress applied and the temperature, but also to a significant extent by the duration of stressing. The results obtained may be used to estimate the behaviour of plastic parts which are to be exposed in service to uniaxial tensile stress over prolonged periods.
