Geometrically defined solid bodies are semi-manufactured products, components of technical structures and systems and the latter themselves. They include machines, vehicles, equipment, tools and other useful and decorative objects whether in one part or several parts. The individual parts of the technical structures or systems are termed workpieces during manufacture. Changes are made to them by tools acting directly or via action media or indirectly through the transmission of action energy. Tools are manufacturing means which, through motion relative to the workpiece accompanied by energy transfer, impart to the workpiece its form or a change in its form and position, occasionally with modification of the properties of its material also.
