Dieser Teil der IEC 61978 gilt für passive Lichtwellenleiter-Kompensatoren mit chromatischer Dispersion. Diese besitzen folgende allgemeine Merkmale: sie sind optisch passiv; sie besitzen einen optischen Eingangs- und einen optischen Ausgangsanschluss zur Übertragung der optischen Leistung; die Anschlüsse sind Lichtwellenleiter (LWL) oder Lichtwellenleiter-Steckverbinder; sie sind wellenlängenabhängig; sie können polarisationsabhängig sein. Diese Norm legt einheitliche Anforderungen fest für: passive Kompensatoren mit chromatischer Dispersion.
