This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the cisterns for hot-water boilers of open type, hereinafter referred to as the \"cisterns\", which are equipped between a feed water pipe of the public water service and a hot-water boiler or hot water tank in order to maintaie the water head at a given value or below, to absorb the expansion or contraction of hot water, and to supply the water automatically, depending on the quantity of hot water used, to the hot-water boiler used for supplying hot water, drinking, or heating, and the hot-water tank. This standard does not apply to the cisterns incorporated in such equipment as hot-water boilers.
