This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the main terms for prosthetics and orthotics, their readings and definitions. The words in brackets [ ] are narrower classification of prosthesis or orthosis being defined. In addition, for reference, the terms or idiomatic terms which have been used previously are shown as synonyms, and the equivalent terms in foreign languages, namely, English, American English, German or French are also provided
