This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the protectors for welders that protect worker\'s eyes against the ultraviolet rays, infrared rays and strong visible rays, hereafter referred to as the \"harmful rays\", arising from welding, fusion cutting, etc. and harmful to eyes by the associated use of the filter plates and cover plates specified in JIS T 8141, and also protect the face, forehead and throat against the risk of suffering external wound from arc, spatter, etc., hereafter referred to as the \"protectors\".
