This specification covers the methods of measurement and requirements for acceptance of the fundamental efforts for straight, zerol, and spiral bevel gears when the control is based upon the use of master gears. The manufacture of bevel gears, particularly precision and those requiring utmost quietness in operation, depends vitally on a careful inspection procedure. Because of the complex configuration in bevel gears and the need for conjugate tooth action, it is necessary that diligent inspection be carried out through the whole manufacturing process.
