In deze norm beschrijft in detail de eisen te stellen aan de eigenschappen van kabelgarnituren bestemd voor toepassing bij sterkstroomkabels met isolatie van geimpregneerd papier, zoals beschreven in NEN 3172. Het is niet nodig typeproeven, nadat ze eenmaal zijn uitgevoerd, tussentijds te herhalen, tenzij er wijzigingen zijn aangebracht in de toegepaste materialen, het ontwerp of het productieproces die de eigenschappen ervan hebben kunnen beinvloeden. De geldigheid van een typekeuring bedraagt in principe 5 jaar. Vervangt KEMA- specificatie S2: 1979. De norm is van toepassing op de volgende garnituren: eindsluitingen voor binnen- en buitenopstelling van om het even welk ontwerp; verbindingsmoffen, aftakmoffen, overgangsmoffen en eindmoffen van om het even welk ontwerp, geschikt voor toepassing in de grond of in de lucht; stekerverbindingen met opschuif- of schroefsysteem, met of zonder afscherming, die kunnen worden gekoppeld met doorvoerisolatormodellen zoals beschreven in NEN-EN 50180 en NEN-EN 50181.
