Diese Norm gilt für Elektrowärmeanlagen für die Umschmelz- und in einigen Fällen für Feinungsprozesse von Metallen durch direkte Widerstandserwärmung einer leitenden Schlacke. Diese Norm ist in Verbindung mit und in Ergänzung zu IEC 60519-1 zu lesen. Die besonderen Anforderungen an die Sicherheit von Personen im Zusammenhang mit Elektroschlacke- Umschmelzöfen sind Gegenstand dieser Norm. Die allgemeinen Anforderungen sind in IEC 60519-1 enthalten. Prüfverfahren für Elektroschlacke-Umschmelzöfen sind in IEC 60779 festgelegt.
