Describes Bellcore's views of the Broadband ISDN (BISDN) Transfer Protocols used for supporting SMDS & Exchange Access SMDS. The scope of the protocols described include those for use at a Subscriber-Network Interface (SNI). Inter-Switching System Interface (ISSI), & the Inter-exchange Carrier Interface (ICI). The transfer protocols described include the Physical Layer, ATM Layer, ATM Adaption Layer, & Connectionless Service Layer. This document also includes a protocol model for each of the three SMDS interfaces & a description of the interworking between Broadband ISDN interfaces & IEEE 802.6 interfaces supporting SMDS.
