STANAG 2577 : 1ED 2012

Purpose of this agreement is to respond to the following interoperability requirements: 1. The requirement for GARS was identified during ISAF Operations. 2. Lack of standardization leads to confusion regarding which system is being used in planning, briefing and reporting, with a major risk of conflicting battle space allocation. 3. Standardized use of GARS would overcome these deficiencies entirely. 4. The standard affects all services and formations of air force, army and naval forces and has also application outside the NATO forum (e.g. PfP, other coalition partners and non-military organisations working with NATO).
