La specifica tecnica descrive un metodo di misurazione della deformazione alla frattura dei rivestimenti ceramici per mezzo di prove a trazione uniassiale o prove a compressione accoppiate con emissione acustica allo scopo di determinare il limite oltre al quale il rivestimento si cricca. Deformazioni per trazione o compressione possono essere indotte anche mediante flessione utilizzando il metodo della flessione su quattro punti. In casi particolarmente favorevoli le misurazioni possono essere eseguite sia ad elevate temperature sia a temperatura ambiente.
