Understanding Product Formats and Licensing
Intertek Inform offers Standards in a variety of digital and print formats, each with specific usage rights, licensing rules, and delivery methods. Choosing the right format ensures compliance and convenience for your organisation.
- Features: Download and save the file locally. Once opened, the PDF is locked to the device.
- Usage Rights: Print up to two copies for personal use.
- Watermarking: Each page is watermarked with the purchaser’s name (or chosen name) and download date, plus the notice “Internal Use Only.”
- Copyright Protection: Protected by Digital Rights Management (DRM) to meet publisher requirements and prevent misuse. (Learn more about DRM in Module 5.)
- Features: Same as the 1-User PDF — downloadable and device-locked.
- Usage Rights: Each licensed user may print up to two copies.
- Availability: Offered by selected publishers, including Standards Australia, ISO, and IEC.

- Multi License: Use across multiple projects, up to 12 final copies, within 6 months.
- Hardcopy Option: Australian Standard Contracts Standards are also available in print, with annexures that can be filled out by hand.
- Watermarking: Business Contract PDFs (1-User and Multi-User) are watermarked with “Internal Use Only.”
- Support Resource: The User Guide: AS Reusable PDF Contracts provides full terms and conditions.
Scenario: Your team of 8 engineers all need access to the same Standard, and each requires their own copy.
Question: Which format should you choose, and what is a key limitation of digital licences?
- A) PDF 1-User Licence
- B) Multi-User PDF Licence (9 users)
- C) Printed Hardcopies
- D) Business Contracts Licence
Correct Answer: B) Multi-User PDF Licence (9 users) — each engineer can access their own licensed copy. Remember: digital PDF licences are locked to devices and DRM-protected, with a maximum of two printed copies per user.
