CONTAINED IN VOL. 06.03, 2008 Covers a rapid procedure for conversion of vegetable and animal fatty oils into methyl esters of the fatty acids suitable for analysis by gas-liquid chromatography. Thought to apply to most drying oils used in the paint industry including soya, linseed, cottonseed, and safflower oils. Erroneous results may be gained from unsaturated oils with a tendency to polymerize in the presence of boron trifluoride (BF3) or to undergo alkaline isomerization. Unsaponifiables are not removed.
