Determines the polycyclic aromatics over the concentration range 1-15 mass % in unused additive free lubricating base oils with a minimum atmospheric boiling point of 300 deg C at 5 % recovered sample. Can be applicable to PCA concentrations outside this range, together with other asphaltene-free petroleum fractions, but the precision is undetermined.
