About the American Institute of Timber Construction
The American Institute of Timber Construction (AITC) is a technical trade association representing the structural glued laminated (glulam) timber industry in the United States. It has been part of the Pacific Lumber Inspection Bureau since 2019.
AITC’s members include glulam manufacturers, installers and suppliers, as well as other interested parties such as engineers, designers and architects. The Institute’s services to its members include advocacy, market support, fabricator education and certification, and the provision of technical information through various publications. This includes published industry Standards on a range of glulam topics.

AITC is a trade association for the glued laminated (glulam) timber industry in the United States. The organisation is part of the Pacific Lumber Inspection Bureau (PLIB). AITC’s purpose is to represent and provide support to the glulam industry through information sharing, education, advocacy and the development and publication of industry Standards.
The body offers memberships to glulam manufacturers as well as to associates of the industry, including suppliers, wholesale stockists and professionals such as architects and engineers. It provides published resources to members covering a wide range of glulam topics to improve and broaden their knowledge and skills, and offers timber fabrication education programs and fabricator certification.
The AITC is a non-governmental not-for-profit association that has offices in Federal Way in Washington in the United States, and in Vancouver in Canada. In 2013, the AITC became a partner of the West Coast Lumber Inspection Bureau (WCLIB). AITC and WCLIB merged with PLIB in 2019, but each retain their own programs and trademarks.
