Specifies the materials and performance requirements for windows, sliding glazed doors, adjustable glass louvres, shopfronts, and window walls with framing elements of one piece, but not curtain walls using stacked or spliced framing systems, manufactured from any materials and installed vertically in external walls of all classes of buildings. Test methods for deflection, operating force, air infiltration, water penetration and ultimate strength are issued separately under the AS 4420 series.

This Standard specifies the materials and performance required of windows, sliding glazed doors, adjustable glass louvres, shopfronts and window walls with one-piece framing elements, but not curtain walls using stacked or spliced framing systems, manufactured from any material and installed vertically in external walls of all classes of buildings.NOTES:1 Prefabricated bay windows which incorporate sloped glass are classified as windows in vertical walls.2 Hinged doors are not covered by this Standard.3 Refer to AS/NZS 4284 for performance specification of building facades.
