This Standard specifies the requirements for the safe use of builders' hoists and associated equipment as defined in AS2549. It includes general sections on planning, selection, siting, erection and dismantling, personnel, maintenance, inspection and repair as well as sections which deal with the specific operating and testing requirements of materials-only hoists and personnel-and-material hoists. An appendix provides an example of an inspection and testing certificate. It is intended for use with AS2550.1 and AS1418.7 which specify the design requirements for such appliances.

This Standard specifies the requirements for the safe use of builders' hoists and associated equipment. It covers materials-only hoists and personnel and materials hoists, the scopes of which are in Sections 6 and 7 respectively.It is complementary to AS 2550.1, but the requirements specified herein shall take precedence over the corresponding requirements of AS 2550.1.
