Deals with the application of the penetrant flaw detection technique for the detection of defects at the surface of all types of materials and components. It provides for the use of dye penetrants and fluorescent penetrants. If either the magnetic particle or the penetrant flaw detection technique can be used, eg. for the examination of ferromagnetic steel, preference should be given to the former. The application of this Standard and other additional requirements for the penetrant inspection of materials are matters for specification on the enquiry or order to the manufacturer.
