This Standard describes a method for determining the consistency of paints using a specified flow cup, and provides alternative techniques for levelling the fluid in the cup before measuring efflux time. Reference testing requires the use of a glass plate to level the fluid in the cup, while a straightedge may be used for routine testing. The method is applicable to liquids having nominal flow times of between 20 s and 120 s.NOTES:1 The glass plate levelling procedure provides assurance that the volume of liquid is constant for all determinations.2 Refer to AS/NZS 1580.214.0 to assess the most suitable method of determining the consistency or viscosity of the test liquid.
