BS 2000-1(1993) : 1993

Describes the determination of the acidity of used and unused lubricating oil, fuel oil, and petrolatum. Methods A and B are alternatives for the determination of total acidity. Method A is more suitable for dark coloured oils and oils of viscosity higher than 120 cSt at 100 degree F and petrolatums. Method B is often used for pale coloured, low viscosity oils such as transformer oil. Method C determines the organic acidity. Where elemental sulfur is in solution, Method A should be used, as Method B may give rise to erroneous results due to interference with the indicator.
