This British Standard specifies the characteristics of a 1% chromium-molybdenum steel for aerospace applications, supplied in the following forms and as parts, for general aerospace use:
- forging stock and billets and bars for subsequent working: softened, designation S 164A;
- forgings: softened, designation S 164C;
- forgings: De ≤ 16 mm, hardened and tempered, designation S 164F;
- black bars for machining: softened, designation S 164B;
- black bars for machining: De ≤ 16 mm, hardened and tempered, designation S 164E;
- bright bars for machining: softened and subsequently cold drawn, cold rolled, machined or ground, designation S 164D;
- bright bars for machining: De ≤ 16 mm, hardened and tempered, designation S 164G.
