Where it is considered that normal reinforced concrete construction will not have adequate durability, galvanized reinforcement is often used in preference to conventional steel reinforcement. Fully revised and updated from the 1984 edition, this Practice Note briefly considers the factors determining the durability of reinforced concrete, the nature of the galvanizing treatment and its effects on the reinforcement and the concrete. Information is given to enable readers to decide when to utilise galvanized reinforcement, and guidelines are provided on the specifications and practices involved in its use.
