The standard refers to the parameters of the physical layer of the local instrument reading system ("Local Bus") for communicating and reading a single instrument or a small set of instruments (max. 5) via a single battery-powered reading device ("master") which can be connected to communicate temporarily or permanently directly to the instrument (i.e. local reading) or via a fixed wiring or a small bus (total cable length max.50 m, i.e. local remote reading).
