La présente norme s'applique à la signalisation routière verticale permanente et temporaire de catégorie SP sur toutes les voies ouvertes à la circulation. Elle définit les dimensions des décors des panonceaux et l'association panonceaux/panneaux. Les tolérances dimensionnelles et de position sur le subjectile sont définies dans la norme XP P 98-531 pour la signalisation verticale permanente et dans la norme XP P 98-541 pour la signalisation verticale temporaire. Les dimensions des décors des panneaux de police sont définies dans la norme XP P 98-532-1. La définition et la terminologie des signaux sont définies dans la norme NFP 98-501.
